Program Notes
Just Outside Bluegrass, for chamber ensemble, was commissioned by the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, and premiered in December 2023 by the Andrew Simpson Ensemble. Incorporating bluegrass styles within a broader contemporary palette, the piece alternates ensemble choruses with solos from each instrument in the ensemble (violin, cello, banjo, piano, and percussion).
